Bruins Soar to a 7-1 Victory Over Screaming Eagles

The Bob Jones University women's soccer team put together an explosive performance on Tuesday night, defeating Toccoa Falls College 7-1 at Alumni Stadium.

"I am incredibly proud of the team for a great effort and finally getting a finishing attitude in the attacking third," said Head Coach Chris Carmichael. "The team has been working incredibly hard in training, and no doubt their hard work paid off tonight. They have been pushing everything at game speed in training and implementing our game plan consistently."

From the opening whistle, the Bruins controlled possession and set the tone offensively. Just 83 seconds into the match, senior forward Francesca Aurednik struck for the first goal of the game. She went on to complete a first half hat trick, scoring again in the 24th and 35th minutes to give the Bruins a commanding 3-0 lead heading into halftime.

Toccoa Falls found a breakthrough early in the second half when Jenny Jaffe netted a goal in the 50th minute, briefly cutting the deficit to 3-1. But the Bruins quickly responded. Aurednik tallied her fourth goal of the night just six minutes later, assisted by Annabelle Gaddis, before Myleigh Shaw added another less than a minute after to stretch the margin to 5-1.

The Bruins sealed the win with two late goals, as Jane Farr scored in the 89th minute and freshman Ila Tomko found the back of the net for her first collegiate goal seconds later to close out the 7-1 victory.

The Bruins dominated statistically, outshooting the Screaming Eagles 27-4 and earning four corner kicks while allowing none. Goalkeepers Margaret Cummings and Caroline Roland combined for three saves in the win.

With the result, the Bruins improved to 2-3-5 on the season and 1-0 in conference play.

Following her four goal evening, Aurednik said, "I am so proud of our team for getting the win against Toccoa Falls. We possessed the ball, played our game, and I hope it carries over into the rest of the season."

"I am really proud of how the team came together for the win," said Myleigh Shaw. "We showed great teamwork and ball movement. Sticking to the principles of soccer went a long way for controlling the game. Hopefully this is a good confidence boost for the rest of the season."

"We will continue to build off of this momentum as we try to get some quick recovery and get ready for a very challenging Emory &  Henry team we play this Thursday," said Carmichael. "Francesca Aurednik had a break out game, and we could sense this was coming soon and put on a brilliant performance tonight."

BJU will look to carry this momentum into their next matchup as they go back on the road to face Emory & Henry University on Thursday.
