Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Kaitlyn Yerkes

Neither Team Finds the Back of the Net in 0-0 Draw

The Bob Jones University women's soccer team added another draw to their season as they played Greensboro College to a 0-0 result Wednesday afternoon at Pride Field in Greensboro, North Carolina. With today's score, the Bruins now sit at 0-1-4 on the year.

Bob Jones entered the mid-week match on the hunt for their first goal and win of the season following a tough 1-0 loss to Southern Wesleyan University on Monday.

As today's game got underway, the Pride got off to a quick start with several early shots. In the first half of the contest, Greensboro held the Bruins without a shot while sending six towards the net and putting BJU goalkeeper Caroline Roland to work in her first collegiate start.

In the second half, the Bruins were able to regroup and come out with a stronger showing. Throughout the frame, the Bruins put together six goal-scoring chances but were unable slip any past the Pride's backline resulting in a 0-0 final score.

"We went head to head with Greensboro in a high energy game," said #9 Estrella Cruz. "We had some great chances second half and worked hard defensively. While we didn't get the result we wanted, it was a real battle that showed how we're growing as a team."

Teammate #24 Savannah Clock also commented on the game saying, "I saw prominent improvement within the second half of the game. Slowly but surely we are finding our rhythm, and I am extremely proud to be part of a team who always gives maximum effort."

Following the game, Head Coach Chris Carmichael said, "we came out sluggish the first half but were able to regroup at halftime and came out much stronger. We finally were able to get some glimpses of our strengths in build up play and got one quality shot on goal and were able to create some other goal scoring opportunities."

"We have had so many games piled up in a short amount of time that we have not had a lot of time to fix some of the challenges we have been dealing with," said Carmichael. "Once we finish this stretch we will get some time to work out some things and put all the pieces together. I am extremely proud and impressed with the effort this team continues to give each and every game. Greensboro is an extremely good team yet our defense was able to stop most of their forward progression. A special congratulations to Caroline Roland who had to step into the goal tonight as Margaret Cummings had some academic conflicts and played an outstanding game and made some incredible stops to keep a clean sheet."

"As much as we need to get the work in we also need to balance this with recovery as we prepare to host Erskine University this Saturday. God continues to bless us and encourage us through this challenging part of the season."

The Bruins host Erskine College on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. at Alumni Stadium in Greenville, South Carolina.
