Box Score The Bruins fell in a 5-0 match to the Belmont Abbey College Crusaders for their first home loss since 2023.
"The thing we need to grow the most is the unity of this group," Head Coach Greg Fulton said after the match. "To beat teams like [Belmont Abbey], we have to be selfless and learn how to play unified.
Going into the match, the Bruins knew it was going to be a tough match against a quality opponent. The Crusaders capitalized on a couple of mistakes for their first couple goals of the match. An errant drop led to the first and a foul in the box led to the second. The Bruins fought back and made several opportunities to score to cut the lead in half, but came up empty. With just about nine minutes to go in the first half, the Crusaders found the back of the net again. The Bruins went into halftime with a 3-0 deficit.
Some adjustments were made, and as a whole, the Bruins played a much better second half. They held possession and used their wingers more effectively. That created several scoring chances, but those came up empty as well. The Crusaders were able to put two more goals away and the Bruins fell 5-0.
"We have a very talented group, but we're not the unified machine yet," Coach Fulton said. "We're building it and we know it is going to take time and work, and we'll grow from tonight. While the result was a big loss, we're going to use it and let it be fuel going forward."
The Bruins look to recover from this loss and take the pitch again Saturday, September 13 when they welcome Truett-McConnell University for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.
