The Bob Jones University Bruins golf team wrapped up its fall season at the Eagle Invitational hosted by Alice Lloyd College in Cohutta, Georgia, on Monday and Tuesday.
Competing at Nob North Golf Course, the Bruins finished fifth in the team standings with a two-round total of 685. Senior Dakota Holt finished third overall on the individual leaderboard.
Dakota Holt, Connor Hairgrove, Tyler Keith, Ethan Koch, and Graydon Hammond represented the Bruins on the course this week. Bob Jones competed against teams from Cleveland State, Truett McConnell University, Bryan College, and Alice Lloyd University.Â
As the tournament got underway in northeast Georgia, Graydon Hammond nearly had a hole in one on the fifth hole. He was able to tap his shot in to get the first birdie of the competition for the Bruins. As Dakota Holt hit the course, he recorded back-to-back birdies on the first and second holes to start the tournament two under par. Ethan Koch, Tyler Keith, and Connor Hairgrove also got off to a solid start on Monday.Â
At the end of 18 holes on Monday, the Bruins finished with a team score of 341. Holt led the Bruins with 78, Hairgrove finished with a score of 87, with the three freshman of Hammond, Koch and Keith each tied at 88 on the day.Â
It was another beautiful day on the golf course as the Bruins got ready for round two on Tuesday. The Bruins battled through some challenging holes. While they were unable to move up the leaderboard, the Bruins finished well with a round two score of 344. Holt, Hairgrove, and Hammond, each finished with the same scores on Tuesday as they did during round one. Holt's score earned him a spot in the top five as he wrapped up the tournament at third overall.Â
Following this week's tournament, Head Coach Denny Scott said, "the opportunity for our freshmen to gain valuable competitive experience at this event is one of the main reasons we accept the invitation each fall. All three of them had some highlights in this tournament, but ultimately, the results give them a solid perspective about the level of competition expected to be successful in collegiate golf. We see some great potential in all three freshmen for the future of Bruins golf, but I'm sure they realize from this event how much work they have to do in the off-season."
He continued saying, "congrats to Dakota for a third place finish individually. He has worked hard as a senior co-captain and has set a great example for the freshmen to follow. He has had two Top Five All-Tournament awards this fall and has been very consistent in leading the team this fall."
