Bruins Pick Up Huge Win at Toccoa Falls

The Bruins won a great battle on the road again as they beat the Toccoa Falls Screaming Eagles 77-69 in a raucous environment.

"I loved that every player had contributions tonight that made a difference in the game," Head Coach Tony Miller said.

The first half began the Bruins got out to a blazing hot start. In the first few minutes of the game, they jumped ahead 17-4. Their lockdown zone defense made it very difficult for the Screaming Eagles to get open shots and the post defense by Shad Vander Hart, Braxton Murray, and Dillon Harris made it difficult inside. The Bruins held a pretty steady lead despite having a few empty possessions in a row. They went into halftime with a comfortable 42-31 lead.

The strong play continued for the Bruins in the second half with lots of timely made shots to quiet down the Toccoa Falls crowd. Despite that, however, the Screaming Eagles went on a couple little runs to claw their way back into the game. The score was 72-69 with two and a half minutes to go. The Bruins remained calm and didn't turn the ball over. They also got the stops necessary to hold onto the lead. Brandon Wilkins put the game on ice as he made several free throws to extend the lead in the final minute. The Bruins, off the back of great effort from the whole team, came away with a very important region win on the road.

Justin Skelton led the offense in points again and finished the night with 27 points from 50% shooting. Shad Vander Hart was nearly perfect scoring 20 points, ripping 12 rebounds, and dishing out six assists. Brandon Wilkins finished the night with 12 points, seven of which came from the free throw line.

The Bruins now look ahead to playing back in the Davis Field House as they welcome another region opponent Southeastern Baptist University on Friday for a 7:00 p.m. tipoff.
