The Bob Jones University golf team spent the day on the golf course at the Columbia College Koalas Invitational. From the Wildewood Country Club in Columbia, South Carolina, the Bruins played in two rounds of golf. 

Six Bruins represented Bob Jones in a field of over 90 golfers on Tuesday. 

"This event was played more as an individual qualifier event than a team competition," said Head Coach Denny Scott. "36 holes in one day is quite grueling, more so mentally than physically."

As the first round got underway, the Bruins got off to a solid start as Eli DeVaughn, Lee Earl Jackson, and DJ Waller each sat at +1 through the first six holes. The team then added several birdies to their scores as the first round continued. After the opening 18 holes, DJ Waller led the team with an even par score of 72. Eli DeVaughn was close behind at 74 and Lee Earl Jackson with 76. Dakota Holt finished the round at 81, and Tyler Keith and Ethan Koch with a score of 92. 

Waller scored a birdie on his first hole of Round Two to sit tied for second overall. Jackson opened his second round with seven straight pars. The rest of the team continued to play well and at the end of the round, broke 300 for the team total. 

Waller finished one under for the day with a second place finish score of 143. DeVaughn closed out the day five over at 149. Jackson was close behind at 151. Holt (159), Koch (174), and Keith (188) wrapped up the scoring for the Bruins.

"Most of our guys scored better in the second round than in the first round which showed their mental toughness and focus," said Scott. "DJ certainly showed what he is capable of when his putter gets hot. He led the entire field of 92 golfers for much of the second round. A few minor "bumps" late in the day resulted in the second place finish, but overall, a very strong performance. Adding up our lowest four scores each round gave us team scores of 303 (Round 1) and 299 (Round 2). These are outstanding scores for us when it is still so early in the season."

"I don't believe we have reached our full potential yet as a team, and it is important to peak at the right time. We are on a good path and look forward to continuing to improve. We are anticipating a much needed competitive break next week, and then we host our own tournament in two weeks. After that, it is on to Regionals. The fall schedule is packed in September to prepare for Regionals, and we still have a lot of work to do."
