Christa Schlichting

Christa currently serves as the Senior Woman Leader and Compliance Coordinator for the BJU Athletics Department. Since 2018 she has been an assistant coach, under Coach Vickie Denny, for the Bruins women’s volleyball program. After joining the Bruins coaching staff, Christa has helped guide the team to six straight NCCAA national championship titles and was named NCCAA National Assistant Coach of the Year by the American Volleyball Coaches Association in 2020. She was also instrumental in developing the Bruins varsity reserve and beach teams.

Christa served as the athletic director and physical education teacher from 2003-2016 at Leesburg Christian School in Northern Virginia. Christa began a successful coaching career at both the developmental and club levels with Loudoun Youth Volleyball and the Northern Virginia Volleyball Association while leading her varsity volleyball team to eight straight state playoff appearances and one state championship title. She successfully created a volleyball feeder program for Leesburg Christian School while also running seasonal camps and clinics to grow the game within the community in Loudoun County. In 2016-2017, she served as the club director and volleyball coach at Spectrum Sports Academy in Roanoke, Virginia, while providing specialized instruction in technical skills and positioning to players of all different age and ability levels through weekly clinics, seasonal camps, and private lessons. She coached three clubs teams for Spectrum Sports Academy during her two years residing in Roanoke, Virginia. Christa also took on the role of head coach of the varsity women’s volleyball team at Roanoke Valley Christian Schools, finishing the season as the VACA Regional regular season champions and District runner-up.

As a member of the Bruins coaching staff, Christa has led the Volleyball Elite and Team Camps each summer at BJU. She loves teaching the sport of volleyball and desires to promote character development and cultivate leadership skills both on and off the court. With 20 years of experience in volleyball coaching and instruction, Christa is still committed to developing herself as a coach and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Sport Administration and Coaching.
