Lady Bruins Win Third Straight

Jeffcott and Hoefler power team over Piedmont 51-34

Box Score
The Lady Bruins have been playing excellent as of late with back to back wins over Clearwater and Warren Wilson. On Friday night, the Bruins put their winning streak on the line as they welcomed the Piedmont International Bruins. As both Bruin squads took the court, both teams knew that mascot bragging rights were on the line. Piedmont entered the game at 5-12 and Coach Franklin's squad was looking to get back on track.

As the game began, both teams got off to a slow start. The Bruins had the advantage early on as Piedmont only had five players for the game. "We knew we needed to run on them to gain the advantage," Coach LeViere said. "They played to their strengths very well and forced us to slow the game down."

In the middle of the first half, the Bruins began to extend their lead as Kourtney Hoefler and Kendra Jeffcott began to get easy buckets in the paint. The team went on a 16-0 run as the Bruins worked to a double-digit lead. Trisha Irving led the Bruins offense and dished out six assists on the night. At the half, the Bruins had a 27-11 lead over Piedmont.

"It was a pretty sloppy first half for us," Coach LeViere said. "We just didn't play our game and do what we knew to do."

In the second half, Piedmont began to chip into the Bruins lead going on several 8-0 runs to eventually draw the game to 33-25. After a series of timeouts, the Bruins were able to knock down shots and keep their lead. "We just needed to be patient," Coach LeViere said. "When we ran our game plan we looked really good. When we were out of sync we looked awful."

Kourtney Hoefler and Kendra Jeffcott each had double-digit rebounds and outrebounded the entire Piedmont team with 25 rebounds together. As the game wore on, the Bruins began to further extend their lead as Hoefler and Jeffcott continued to use their height to an advantage with easy layups. As the final buzzer sounded, the Bruins had won their third straight game with a 51-34 victory.

"Overall we have taken some great steps forward," Coach LeViere said. "We're starting to get acclimated to this level of play and really starting to play well as a team. We're going to look to keep that going."

Kendra Jeffcott led the Bruins with 13 points and 10 rebounds while Kourtney Hoefler added 12 points and 15 rebounds. With the win the Lady Bruins move to 8-12 on the season. The team will rest up over the weekend and will look to keep their winning streak going as they welcome Appalachian Bible College on Tuesday night.
