In the opening minutes, the Bruins showed that they wanted their winning streak to continue as forwards Rebecca Luttrell and Lauren Peek barraged the Suns net with shots. The Bruins executed crisp passes and worked their offensive positioning to be able to generate open shot opportunities. "We wanted to work on stretching the field and getting better possession play," Coach Carmichael said. "We wanted to create some good combination play inside on the offense to get better looks than we have had in previous games."

The Bruins broke into the scoring column early as Rebecca Luttrell netted a goal in the 18th minute to put the Bruins up 1-0. The Suns then allowed an own goal off a deflection to give the Bruins a 2-0 lead. From there, the Bruins offense went on a tear as Rachel Niarchos, Jenn Wise and Morgan McCarty all scored to give the Bruins a 5-0 lead at the half. The Bruins defense stood strong as the team did not allow the Suns a single shot on goal throughout the first half.

"Defense starts at our forwards on back and we did a good job of not allowing space behind us," Coach Carmichael said. "We were able to gain some confidence as we played which helped us a lot."

In the second half, the Bruins began to sub in several of their reserve players to get them some quality minutes. The Bruins offense continued to pressure the Suns' net while holding Johnson University away from the net. In the 64th minute, Spencer Martin kept the Bruins offensive onslaught going with a beautiful shot giving the Bruins a 6-0 lead. Lauren Peek added two more goals a few minutes later to give the Bruins a commanding 8-0 lead. The final buzzer handed the Bruins their third straight win with 8-0 victory over the Johnson University Suns.

"Anytime you get a win it is great," Coach Carmichael said. "Especially when it is in conference play, so we hope to continue this as we play more of our conference schedule in the weeks ahead."

Lauren Peek led the way for the Bruins with 2 goals while Rebecca Luttrell and Spencer Martin each had 1 goal and 1 assist on the night. The Bruins improve to 3-2-1 on the season and will have almost a week of rest and recovery before they hit the road for their next match against Ohio Christian University.
