Box Score
The Bruins played the second of their three game Florida road trip on Thursday night as they traveled to Temple Terrace, Florida for a matchup with the Florida College Falcons. The Bruins were coming off a 90-73 win over Johnson University of Florida on Tuesday night. The Falcons of Florida College came into Thursday's game with a 7-11 record and had lost five of their last six games.
From the opening tip, the fans in attendance knew this game was going to be close as both teams traded baskets in the opening minutes trying to establish momentum. The Bruins were able to work through their offense and swing the ball to generate open looks. Still the score remained close until the Falcons began to pull ahead 25-21. From there, the Bruins went on a 9-0 run to grab momentum and head into the break with a 30-25 lead.
"They are a very good team and they play especially well at home," Coach Ring said.
In the second half, the Bruins came out rejuvenated and took it to Florida College. Zach Mercado and Larry Taylor helped the Bruins score in transition to keep the lead. The Falcons refused to go away as the game remained close. The Bruins had to overcome a very good zone defense put on by Florida Christian. Despite the good defense, the Bruins were able to get clutch free throws from Larry Taylor and Kyle Turner down the stretch to ice the 75-62 victory.
"I am really proud of our effort tonight," Coach Ring said. "We had a quality team win on the road."
Zach Mercado led the way for the Bruins with 16 points while Larry Taylor and Kyle Turner each had 15. With the win, the Bruins improve to 8-9 on the season and have the opportunity to climb back to .500 as they travel to Clearwater Christian College on Saturday night.
