Lady Bruins Bounce Back with 8-0 Win

Team captures first conference win of the season in shutout of Johnson University of Florida

Box Score
The Lady Bruins bounced back in a big way from their opening loss on Thursday night by shutting out the Johnson University of Florida Suns 8-0 on Friday afternoon. This was their first conference win of the 2015 season.

"Overall this was a great collective effort from our team today," Coach Chris Carmichael said. "We had eight different players score and our mobility was much better as we tried to get more third man runs and combinations in the attacking third."

The Bruins came out strong right from the opening kickoff and went right to work controlling the pace and flow of the game. The team was able to work with great precision as they moved the ball up the pitch with crisp passing. The Bruins got on the board first after Jenn Wise found Mimi Lozano who buried the shot to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead. Just minutes later, Abby Davis buried a beautiful shot into the back of the net to give the Bruins a 2-0 advantage.

The team refused to let up the pressure as both sides of the ball seemed to work flawlessly throughout the first half. After goals by Anna Daulton and Paige Englehart, the Bruins went into the half with a comfortable 4-0 lead.

"Defensively we were able to fix some of the problems we've been experiencing in previous games," Coach Carmichael said. "We defended much better and were able to stage our attacks much more efficiently."

In the second half, the Bruins didn't back down as they continued to work the ball up the field for scoring opportunities. Spencer Martin bent a beautiful shot into the back of the net to increase the lead to 5-0. The Bruins added to their total just minutes later as Natasha Walters received a through pass from Spencer Martin and beat the goalkeeper with a well-placed shot to make it 6-0.

In the closing moments of the match, Jenn Wise notched an unassisted goal and Leah Edwards scored her first goal of the year to help the Bruins come away with a commanding 8-0 win over the Suns.

"Great team effort by everyone today," Coach Carmichael said. "Now we need to quickly recover and get ready for tomorrow."

Spencer Martin and Jenn Wise each had a goal and 2 assists while Leah Edwards recorded one goal and one assist. Defensively, the Bruins allowed little opportunity for the Suns to score as the defense stood strong throughout the entirety of the match.

With the win, the Bruins climb back to 1-1 on the season. The team will finish up the last of their three-game road trip tomorrow afternoon as they play Southeastern University at 12 p.m.
