The Bob Jones University Bruins volleyball team fell in straight sets (5-0) to Bryan College in their second preseason match of the 2016 season. "We are getting a good education in college volleyball," Head Coach Vickie Denny said. "The players are learning more about the quickness of the college game which is helping us continue to prepare for our season opener next week."
The Bryan College Lions are a strong NAIA program and proved to be a tough test for the Lady Bruins on Wednesday afternoon. In the first set, the Lions jumped out to an early lead and never looked back taking the set 25-12. The Bruins stepped up their game in the second set and began to string together a good hitting attack. Still, it wasn't enough as they fell 16-25.
In the third set, the Lions came out roaring from the opening serve and won the set in convincing fashion 25-7. The Bruins responded well by continuing to battle despite the quickness and strength of the Lions team. The Bruins dropped the fourth set 14-25 and narrowly lost the final set 13-15. Overall, the team continued to gain valuable experience against a high level of competition.
"Today showed how far we have come and how much we still have to learn before we can consistently compete at that level," Coach Denny said. The team will finish up preseason play on Friday afternoon as they travel to Athens, Tennessee for a matchup with Tennessee Wesleyan College at 4 p.m.
