The BJU Lady Bruins were able to dominate from start to finish as the team defeated the Talladega College Tornadoes 13-0. The win marks the 3rd in a row for the team and moves the Bruins to 6-7 on the season. Due to weather conditions, the Wednesday match was moved to the Upward Sports Complex in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
It didn't take the Bruins long to find the back of the net as Abby Davis scored just 55 seconds into the match to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead. The Bruins came right back with another goal four minutes later as Kaitlyn Hummel scored to give the team a 2-0 lead. Before the first half was over, Abby Davis completed the hat trick while Anna Daulton, Sarah Epperson, Carlie Mitchell, Kayla Romeiser, and Meagan Hummel each scored to give the Bruins a 9-0 halftime lead.
"Everything clicked for us today," Bruins Head Coach Chris Carmichael. "We did a great job of attacking and maintaining possession."
The Lady Bruins were able to carry over their success into the second half. Grace Hoffman had a hat-trick and Kaelynn Hicks scored as BJU went on to win 13-0. The Lady Bruins did a great job defensively limiting Talladega's scoring chances as BJU out shot the Tornadoes 42 to 1. Although the team played well in the match, they know the importance of their upcoming match as the team will welcome region-rival Trinity Baptist College on Saturday.
"Going into Saturday's game, we need to continue to play with a fast pace and win the battle of possession," said Coach Carmichael. "Trinity Baptist will be a great challenge for us."
Be sure to catch the Lady Bruins in action on Saturday for homecoming weekend as they take on Trinity Baptist College at Alumni Stadium. The match will begin at 4 p.m.
