Eagles Storm Lady Bruins 3-0

Box Score
Stormy weather caused the Lady Bruins soccer match to be delayed for over an hour during the course of the game, but the team still held their own as they battled to a hard fought 3-0 loss to Reinhardt University on Saturday night in Waleska, Georgia.

"Overall this was a great effort against a very good Reinhardt team," Bruins Head Coach Chris Carmichael said. "We kept much of their attacks in control and we were able to possess much better and penetrate the attacking third."

In the opening minutes, the two teams traded possession with each trying to get into their rhythm of play. The Eagles broke into the scoring column first as Adrien Merrilles beat Bruins keeper Jessica Baun with a well placed shot to put RU up 1-0. The Bruins came back out looking to find the equalizer but lightning caused a stoppage in play as the match was delayed for over an hour.

When play resumed, the Eagles came out strong again as they looked to build on their lead. The Bruins defense stood strong as they turned aside opportunities and Jessica Baun made several saves for the team. The halftime whistle signaled a break for the two teams as the Eagles held a 1-0 lead.

In the second half, the Bruins played more aggressive offensively as the team looked to even the score. Defensively, the Bruins matched the Eagles offense step for step as they continued to keep RU from scoring. With the match beginning to wind down, the Bruins began to send extra players forward as they looked to draw even. This aggressive offensive play left them exposed defensively and the Eagles took advantage as Katie Goodrich scored off a rebound to put Reinhardt up 2-0. Just minutes later, the Eagles scored again and held on to defeat the Bruins 3-0.

"There were many positives that came out of this match," Coach Carmichael said. "I was proud of our team for giving their best effort to the last whistle."

Jessica Baun made 9 saves on the night for the team as the Bruins were outshot 20-2 throughout the match. Next up, the Bruins will be on the road again as they battle Southern Wesleyan University on Thursday in Central, South Carolina.
