Bruins Come Up Short in Road Loss to Tornados 3-1

The Bruins second half rally came up short on Monday night as the team suffered a tough loss to Brevard College 3-1. With the loss, the Bruins fall to 5-10-1 on the season.

"We had a lot of positives from this match and a couple of things to improve on," Bruins Head Coach Jesse McCormick said. "I am proud of our team this season."

The Bruins came into the match on Monday on the heels of a strong performance on Saturday as the team defeated Johnson University 4-1. Brevard College came into the match at 4-11 but the Tornados were in search of a win having dropped four straight.

In the opening minutes, the Bruins and Tornados came out strong with each creating opportunities early on to score. At the midway point of the half, Sebastian Sulik was able to create space and fire a shot but it was saved by BC's goalie Patrick Hall.

With the half coming to a close, the Tornados mounted one last push and it paid off as Xavier Mariduena beat the Bruins defense and buried a shot to put Brevard College up 1-0. That goal would be the only one of the half as the Tornados maintained their slim lead at the break.

As the second half began, the Bruins came out looking to find the equalizer. Instead, the Tornados increased their lead as Alex Tenjhay scored with an accurate shot to make it 2-0. Less than five minutes later, Mariduena scored his second goal of the match to make the score 3-0.

With their backs against the wall, the Bruins looked to get something going offensively. They found their answer on the foot of Jesse Rush as the junior received a great pass from Andrew Zhang and scored to make the score 3-1. Unfortunately, the Bruins wouldn't find the back of the net again as they fell 3-1.

"Our results throughout this season don't match the ability and effort our guys have put in," Coach McCormick said. "We're looking forward to Friday and then in competing in regionals next week."

Despite falling 3-1, the Bruins were even with the Tornados in shot count 20-20. The Tornados did edge the Bruins 11-10 in an on-goal shot margin. Isaac Landry made eight saves on the night while Jesse Rush netted his third goal of the season.

Next up, the Bruins will finish the 2018 regular season on Friday night as they battle Georgia Gwinnett College in Lawrenceville, Georgia.
