Lady Bruins Close Out Regular Season with 3-0 Loss to Bears

The Lady Bruins soccer team struggled on Tuesday night as the team didn't even register a shot in the match in a 3-0 loss to Truett-McConnell College in Cleveland, Georgia. With the loss, the Lady Bruins finish the regular season at 9-6-2.

"There isn't much to say about this one," Bruins Head Coach Chris Carmichael said. "We couldn't find our rhythm and collectively we had a bad day where nothing seemed to work for us."

The Bruins came into Tuesday's game on a hot streak winning seven of their last eight games. They knew they would be in for a battle as Truett-McConnell came into the game on Tuesday having won 11-straight and stood at 13-1 on the season. The Bruins took the pitch against the Bears for their last regular season match of the season.

From the opening kickoff, the Bears went right to work as they moved the ball with good precision into the Bruins end. Angelina Martin came up with the save early on, but the Bears came right back on the attack with several good looks. On offense, the Bruins struggled as they couldn't seem to possess the ball long enough to get into their usual rhythm of play.

In the 26th minute of play, the Bears finally found the back of the net as Lauren Huston scored to make it 1-0. Less than two minutes later, the Bears struck again as Marissa Harkins scored off a corner kick ball in the box to increase the TMU lead 2-0. From there, the Bruins tried to find an answer but went into the half with a lot of ground to make up down 2-0.

As the second half began, the Bruins came out determined to get something going offensively. The Bears defense had other plans as they continued to intercept passes and end the Bruins offensive attacks.

With the match beginning to come to a close, Jasmin Lanuza put the game out of reach as she netted a goal for the Bears to push the lead to 3-0. The Bears kept up the pressure as they controlled the match from start to finish in a 3-0 win.

The Bears out shot the Bruins 21-0 in the match including a 13-0 on-goal margin. Despite the relentless pressure, Angelina Martin made 9 saves on the night before being pulled in the final minutes of the game.

The Bruins close out the regular season at 9-6-2 and now the team will prepare for the NCCAA South Region Tournament next week. The Bruins will enter the tournament as the #1 seed and will play the winner of the semi-final round between #2 seeded Trinity Baptist College and #3 seeded Toccoa Falls College. The region championship will be played on Saturday, November 3 in Toccoa Falls, Georgia. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
