The Lady Bruins struggled to get their offense going on Saturday night against Georgia Gwinnett College as they fell 4-0 in their final scrimmage of the preseason. Coach Carmichael and the Bruins staff have been experimenting with different player combinations and tactical strategies so far this season. They would do so again in this scrimmage especially with several key players sidelined for the match.
The Grizzlies didn't take long to get started as they were able to move right into scoring position and buried a shot in the back of the net to make it 1-0 just over a minute into the game.
The Bruins tried to get back into the game, but possession was a struggle for the team as they had several giveaways in the midfield. In the 22nd minute, the Grizzlies extended their lead with a goal just past Bruins' keeper Angelina Martin to make it 2-0. The Grizzlies would take that lead into the half.
As the two teams came out from the break, the Bruins looked to climb back into the match and get on the scoreboard. Instead, it was a bad break for the Bruins as a deflection in the box resulted in an own goal to make it 3-0. The Grizzlies would add another goal to make it 4-0 before the scrimmage was called due to lightning in the area.
Despite back to back losses in the preseason, the Lady Bruins were able to grow against some strong competition. The team will open the 2018 season on August 25 as they welcome Brenau University to Alumni Stadium. Kickoff at 6 p.m.
