Bruins Sweep Brevard College for Road Win

The Lady Bruins were on the road on Tuesday night as the team defeated Brevard College in straight sets 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-17). Katherine Ring led the Bruins with 13 kills in the match. With the win, the Bruins improve to 26-4 on the season.

"We had different people step up and contribute for us tonight," Bruins Head Coach Vickie Denny said. "While some of our starters struggled, others came off the bench and made great contributions. That's what a team is all about."

Coming into the match on Monday, the Bruins had been on an impressive run winning twelve of their last thirteen games. The Tornados struggled in recent weeks as the team was in the midst of a six-game losing skid. The match would be the final road contest of the regular season for the Bruins as the team looked to head back home with a win.

In the opening set, Saleena Walker provided a strong serve as the Bruins jumped out to a 5-1 lead. The Tornados climbed back into the set thanks to attack errors by the Bruins as the score evened to 6-6.

Katherine Ring gave the Bruins a lead again as she recorded two kills to give the team a boost offensively. Still, the Tornados stayed within striking distance and wouldn't let the Bruins pull away. Another kill by Ring put the Bruins up 21-16. The Tornados wouldn't score another point that set as the Bruins closed out with for straight points to win the set 25-16.

The Bruins again jumped out to an early lead thanks to good serving by Lauren Mukenschnabl as the senior recorded two aces to help build an 11-3 lead. The Tornados tried to respond but the Bruins answered with each point to keep the lead. Again, Katherine Ring provided the offensive firepower as she recorded two kills to help the Bruins close out the second set winning 25-15 to lead the match 2-0.

With their backs against the wall, the Tornados came out in the third set looking to avoid the sweep. Brevard got two kills and an ace early on as they built a 5-2 lead. The Bruins answered back with a 6-0 run sparked by a kill by Victoria Glaze. The Bruins kept up the pressure as Glaze provided another kill to push the lead to 14-10.

The Tornados tried to claw their way back into the set, but Katherine Ring continued her dominant offensive play as she made the game-winning kill to finish set three 25-17 and the match 3-0.

Ring led the Bruins with 13 kills while also notching two solo blocks in the match. Brittany Annand recorded 25 assists while Saleena Walker recorded 18 digs and Lauren Mukenschnabl had three aces.

Next up, the Bruins will wrap up the regular season of play on Saturday as the team welcomes Truett-McConnell University and Kentucky Christian University for a tri-match at the Davis Field House.
