Shupe Leads the Way as Bruins Maul Monarchs 81-54

The Bruins picked up a big victory on Saturday afternoon as the team defeated Methodist University 81-54 in the Davis Field House. With the win, the Bruins improve to 3-2 on the season.

"In our last game we just didn't have a fluid offense so today we tried to work the ball around for the open shot and use the clock more," Bruins guard Madison Shupe said after hitting six threes in the game and scoring 25 points.

The Bruins edged Wesleyan College 46-45 on Monday. This game, the Bruins looked to play well from the start and it showed. Although the Monarchs scored the first basket, the Bruins responded on a 15-3 run as Madison Shupe hit four three pointers to help the Bruins take a 24-14 lead at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the hot shooting continued as the Bruins shot an incredible 73% from three-point range in the first half as they continued to stretch their lead. Defensively, the Bruins did well in rebounding as they boxed out and snatched the ball taking away second chance opportunities. As a result, the Bruins led 50-20 at the end of the first half.

In the second half, the Monarchs set up a full court press, but the Bruins were able to break it almost every time. After a layup by Delaney Edwards and back to back baskets by Shupe, the Bruins had pushed their lead to 59-24. The team continued to execute their offense to near perfection as they ended the third quarter up 68-33.

With the game decided, the Bruins came out in the fourth quarter and continued to play well. Several reserve players put in key minutes for the Bruins with Charsie Johnson scoring six points off the bench for the team. As the final buzzer sounded, the Bruins finished a dominant performance with an 81-54 win over Methodist University.

"This is basketball and we wanted to just have fun," Bruins forward Kylee Leffew said. "We had lost some of that in our last games. This is a game we all love so today we wanted to come out and take smart shots and move the offense the way we know how."

Madison Shupe led the team in scoring with 25 points, while Kylee Leffew had a near double-double with 11 points and 9 rebounds. Gracen Ledford also had a strong game with 11 points and 6 assists.

The Bruins travel next to play at Brevard College on Tuesday, November 19. The tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Brevard College in Brevard, North Carolina.
