Women's Soccer Falls to North Greenville in Final Preseason Exhibition

The Lady Bruins soccer team ended preseason play on Saturday night as the team fell to North Greenville University (NCAA D2) 4-0 in Tigerville, South Carolina. The team came into the game on the heels of a loss in their opening preseason match to the Citadel on Thursday.

"Despite the score, I saw lots of positives and I'm very encouraged by how we played," Bruins Head Coach Chris Carmichael said. "If we take away a few of our mistakes, it really was an evenly balanced game. We have more to fix, but it's coming along and we have one more week of preseason to prepare."

The Greenville air had a hint of fall feeling as the cooler temperatures present nearly perfect conditions for the match. From the opening kickoff, the Bruins found themselves on their heels as the Crusaders went right on the attack. The pressure eventually resulted in a pair of goals for NGU as they took a 2-0 lead into the half.

Coach Carmichael switched some of the strategy for the Bruins and it paid off with the team able to generate several great offensive runs throughout the course of the second half. Unfortunately, the Bruins weren't able to slow the Crusaders as NGU netted two more goals in the second half to win 4-0.

"I was proud of the way we played in the second half," Coach Carmichael said. "We switched our system of play and put NGU under a lot of pressure which almost netted a couple of goals for us. While we still have some things to work out, I am confident we'll be ready for our first match coming up next week."

The Bruins will open the regular season on August 31 with a home match against Salem College. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. at Alumni Stadium.
