Lady Bruins Bounce Back with 3-0 Shutout of Toccoa Falls

The Lady Bruins bounced back from their season opening loss on Friday as the team shutout Toccoa Falls College 3-0 on Saturday night at Alumni Stadium. Kayle Stevenson led the Bruins with a goal and two assists as the team improves to 1-1 on the season.

"We got the win which was great and Toccoa Falls really played a great game and put it to us," Bruins Head Coach Chris Carmichael said. "We struggled a bit in the first half with being impatient but we made some adjustments and gave a good effort to get the win."

The Bruins came into the match on the heels of a road loss on Friday afternoon at USC Beaufort 2-1. The team was looking to bounce back as they welcomed the Screaming Eagles, who entered the match at 0-1 after a loss to Trinity Baptist College last week.

From the opening kickoff, the Bruins came out strong with good possession as they worked the ball into the attacking third. The team was able to get several good looks on frame, but couldn't find the back of the net early on despite numerous attempts. Defensively, the Bruins kept the Screaming Eagles at bay with good defensive pressure to thwart opportunities.

In the 32nd minute, the Bruins finally broke the scoreless draw as Mia Marks scored her first career goal with the Bruins off an assist from Kayle Stevenson to make it 1-0. The Bruins continued to keep up the pressure, but open attempts sailed wide as the team went into halftime leading 1-0.

As the second half began, the Bruins came out looking to extend their lead. The team did a much better job of controlling possession in the second half and allowing their offensive progressions to unfold in the attacking third. As a result, the Bruins extended their lead thanks to a goal from Brinkley Adams to make it 2-0.

Just minutes later, Kayle Stevenson put the game out of reach as she bent a beautiful shot with trickled past the goal line to put the Bruins up 3-0. The Screaming Eagles tried to get back into the game, but the Bruins wouldn't be denied the shutout as the won the match 3-0.

"We are a much better team when we are solid in our possession," Coach Carmichael said. "We need to be more patient and all of our players are giving a great effort. Now we just need to get galvanized as a team which is going to take a few games to happen but it is getting there."

The Bruins outshot the Screaming Eagles 33-2 in the match while Kayle Stevenson led the way with a goal and two assists. Brinkley Adams and Mia Marks each tallied their first goals of the season while Elise Benke was also credited with an assist.

Next up, the Bruins will be on the road on Thursday afternoon as they face Brewton-Parker College in Mount Vernon, Georgia. Kickoff for the match is set for 2 p.m.
