The Lady Bruins played their lone preseason exhibition on Friday night as the team competed in a Blue/White scrimmage at Alumni Stadium. Freshman Gabriela Gonzalez scored the lone goal of the match to give the blue team the victory 1-0.
"Given all that has been going on in the world, the team was just excited to be back on the field," Bruins Head Coach Chris Carmichael said. "We've got a lot of work to do as we continue to prepare for the season. Overall it was a good effort as we tried some different systems and combinations throughout."
Both squads had a great showing in the match with several individual highlights. Angelina Martin made several key saves throughout the match included several point blank shots in front of the net.
With the first half drawing to a close, Gabriela Gonzalez broke the scoreless tie and put the blue team out in front 1-0 at the break. Abby Herr sent a corner kick into the box and Gonzalez took advantage of a loose ball to fire a low shot past Martin for the goal.
In the second half, both teams had great opportunities and shots on frame. As the buzzer sounded, the lone goal in the first half proved to be the difference as the Bruins blue won 1-0.
"We need to fix some little things but I am confident we'll be ready as we begin the season next week," Coach Carmichael said.
The Bruins will open the 2020 season on Friday as they face USC Beaufort in Bluffton, South Carolina. Kickoff for the match is set for 3 p.m.
