The Lady Bruins welcome rival Pensacola Christian College to the Davis Field House on Friday night for their first NCCAA DII South Region matchup of the 2020-21 season. The team enters the game at 0-2 after back to back losses to open the season.
The Eagles come into Friday's game at 6-1 overall, having won three of their last four games. The Eagles have been led by junior guard Lauren Alvarez, who is averaging 20.0 points and 12.7 rebounds per game this season.
The Bruins have been led by Gracen Ledford who is averaging 11.0 points and 3.0 rebounds per game. Ledford scored 16 points and recorded 5 rebounds in the loss to Carolina Christian College on Monday night.
This will be the 18th time the Bruins and Eagles have met in the history of this rivalry with the Bruins holding an 8-9 record against PCC. The two teams met three times last season with the Eagles winning two of those three games.
However, the Bruins came up with the upset in the last matchup of the season in the NCCAA DII South Region Championship winning 78-62. The Bruins were led by an incredible effort by seniors Madison Shupe, Rachel Clark, and Kylee Leffew who combined to score 62 of the team's points to capture their second region title in program history.
The next chapter of this rivalry is set to be written on Friday night with tip-off for the game set for 6 p.m. in the Davis Field House in Greenville, South Carolina.
