Bruins Remain Unbeaten in Region Play with Sweep of Screaming Eagles

The Bruins volleyball team notched their seventh win in a row as the team swept region rival Toccoa Falls College 3-0 on Tuesday night in Toccoa, Georgia. With the win, the Bruins improve to 21-4 on the season and a perfect 6-0 in region play.

"A region win against Toccoa is always a good night, especially when it is at their place," Bruins Head Coach Vickie Denny said. "We got good offensive production and had several key digs from our back row."

The Bruins came into the match after back to back sweeps over Johnson & Wales University and Agnes Scott College in competition last week. The Bruins and Screaming Eagles met earlier this season on September 21 in Greenville with the Bruins sweeping TFC 3-0.

Toccoa Falls came into Tuesday's match looking to snap a five-match losing streak including falling to Johnson University (TN) 3-0 on Saturday. The two teams took the court as the next chapter of this South region rivalry was set to be written.

In the opening set, the two teams traded points but the Bruins maintained a slim lead thanks to kills from Timbre Cruz and Victoria Glaze. The Bruins then built on their lead as an ace from Glaze and a kill from Camila Silva pushed the lead to 11-4.

The Screaming Eagles responded by scoring four-straight points as Paije Shouse recorded back to back aces but the Bruins responded with a five-point run to lead 18-10. The Bruins were then able to hold off a late run by TFC as they took set one 25-19.

In the second set, the Screaming Eagles came out looking to even the match as they built a 6-4 lead. The Bruins then responded on a 9-0 run as Hannah Prince recorded back to back aces and Camila Silva a kill as the team led 12-6. The Screaming Eagles again mounted a late run but Victoria Glaze finished off TFC in set two with back to back kills and an ace as the Bruins won 25-19 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

The Bruins carried their momentum into set three as they looked to sweep the Screaming Eagles. Kills from Victoria Glaze and Kayla Oberstar helped the Bruins jump out to a 5-1 lead, but the Screaming Eagles again tried to extend the match as they battled back to trail 8-6.

Another run helped the Bruins extend their lead as Timbre Cruz had back to back kills to help the team push their lead to 16-8. The Bruins then scored five-straight points with Hannah Prince making a kill to complete the sweep 3-0 with a 25-14 win in the final set.

Victoria Glaze led the Bruins with a double-double 10 kills and 12 digs in the win while Katelyn Landkrohn and Timbre Cruz also played well defensively with 12 digs each.

Next up, the Bruins will be on the road again this weekend as they play back to play South region matchups in Pensacola, Florida. The team will play Johnson University (FL) at 4 p.m. followed by a matchup with Pensacola Christian College at 6 p.m.
