Bruins Defeat Pensacola in South Region Showdown

The Bruins extend their winning streak and come away with a big 2-1 victory over South Region Rivals Pensacola Christian College Saturday night in Pensacola, Florida. Tonight's victory marks the first time the Bruins have defeated the Eagles on their home turf.

"This is always a tough place to play," said Coach Greg Fulton. "Our program has never won at Pensacola and it feels good to get the first win in program history there. We fought every type of adversity there is in the game and my boys stayed strong."

The game started out with Pensacola receiving a yellow card just 30 seconds into the game. The Bruins would pressure the Eagles early until Victor Oladipo was able break the draw in the 21st minute as Eagles goalkeeper Adam Lund would come off his line and Oladipo would head the ball over him and then chip the ball into the empty net.

The Eagles would have their first chance of the evening just a few minutes later after they were awarded a penalty kick, but goalkeeper Chris Monczewski would make the save to keep the 1-0 lead for the Bruins.

The Bruins would double their lead with eight minutes remaining in the first half after Caleb Adams sent the ball off of a set piece into the box where Mario Figueroa was there to score.

Things got chippy in the second half and some mistakes by the Bruins saw more yellow cards and a hand ball right outside the box which gave the Eagles several opportunities to score, but the Bruins were still able to hold on to their 2-0 lead.

But with 16 minutes remaining in the game, the Eagles cut their deficit by one after Angel Acosta was able to score off of a corner kick. But as the time on the clock ran down, so did the chances for the Eagles to tie the game and the Bruins would come away with the 2-1 victory.

"We have some adjustments to make and will look to improve over the next few weeks," said Fulton. "Overall message to my boys, I am proud of you."

With tonight's win the Bruins move to 7-2-1 on the season and are undefeated in conference play. They will travel to Virginia Beach on Tuesday to take on Regent University.
