Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Kaitlyn Unruh

Winning Streak Reaches 15 Games as Bruins Beat Royals 5-0 on Senior Night

The women's soccer team continued their dominant run as they shutout NCCAA South Region opponent Regent University 5-0 on Senior Night. The Bruins have extended their winning streak to 15 games as they moved to 16-1 on the season and remain undefeated in region play.

"We had another great effort from the team tonight," said Head Coach Chris Carmichael. "We regrouped at halftime to get back to our game play and the team did a much better job executing through the second half of the game. Our players did a great job creating a lot of goal-scoring opportunities and put a lot of pressure on the Royals. Our defense did great absorbing their attacks and were phenomenal at building the attack out of the back."

The Bruins came into tonight's match after a close 3-2 victory at Warren Wilson College on Tuesday.

It was a slow start for the Bruins as they struggled to find their rhythm, but an own goal by the Royals six minutes into tonight's match would give the Bruins a 1-0 lead in the first half. At halftime the Bruins recognized seniors Elise Benke, Anna Grace Abrams and Caroline Hartzler as they were honored in one of their final home games at Alumni Stadium for their contributions to the team.

As the second half got underway the Bruins would start off strong and would go on to tally four goals. Anna Grace Abrams, Gabriela Gonzalez, Mia Marks and Abby Herr were all able to get on the score sheet. Goalkeeper Susanna Hutson made several solid saves to keep the clean sheet for the Bruins.

Midfielder Susie VanDoodewaard said that "we were struggling to possess in the beginning of the game, but we got into our groove and dominated the rest of the game. Everyone worked hard together to get this win."

It's a quick turnaround for the women's soccer team as they face off against Trinity Baptist College tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Alumni Stadium.
