Several Bright Spots Highlight Preseason Scrimmage as Bruins Fall to Crusaders 68-57

The Bruins women's basketball team opened preseason play on Saturday as the team fell to North Greenville University 68-57. The Bruins were down by as many as 20 points in the game, but came roaring back to gain the lead before coming up short at the end of the game.

"We played really well and got some of our questions answered," Bruins Head Coach Mike LeViere said. "We were wondering how our new defense was going to work as it takes a lot of effort and hustle but we saw dividends as the game progressed."

In the first half, the Crusaders were able to use their size and speed to their advantage as they took the early lead. The Bruins were able to slowly chip away at the lead and even hit a three as time expired as they trailed by 18 at the half.

The team was able to make their halftime adjustments and battled back to take a 55-54 lead in the fourth quarter. Unfortunately, the Bruins offense went cold as they scored just two points in the final four minutes with the Crusaders winning 68-57.

"Walking into the gym, our team knew this was going to be a battle for us as they were a bigger, taller and faster than us," Coach LeViere said. "We were able to get everyone some significant minutes and were able to see a lot of our new players in game situations. It was really good to be able to practice against someone that wasn't us. That's what we were looking for and we are definitely better because of this experience."

The Bruins will tip-off the regular season on November 5 as the team welcomes Agnes Scott College to the Davis Field House at 7 p.m.
