Bruins Can't Slow Eagles in Exhibition Loss

The Bruins basketball team faced another tough test as the team battled Georgia Southern University in a road exhibition in Statesboro, Georgia. The Bruins fell behind early and couldn't slow the Eagles in a 103-51 loss. Still, the experience will strengthen the team as the look forward to their home opener on Thursday night against Montreat College.

"Georgia Southern is the most athletic and longest team we have faced since I have been coaching here," Bruins Head Coach Burton said. "We shot really well against Wofford last week and ust couldn't get it going tonight."

The Bruins came in ready to play their first of three games this week. They knew they would be in for another tough test as they faced the Eagles who came into the game at 2-0 on the season.

In the opening minutes, the two teams traded baskets as Henry Blair hit a three to tie the game at 6-6. The Bruins continued to keep pace, but the Eagles began to find their rhythm as the team went on a 16-0 run near the midway point of the half to lead 28-12. From there, the Eagles never looked back as the team made 16-17 field goals during one stretch to take a 53-23 lead into halftime.

As the Bruins came out for the second half, the team hoped to make it respectable and battle their way back into the game. Instead, the Eagles continued to use their size and athleticism to go on a 10-0 run to begin the half and increase their lead. The Bruins were able to string together several flashes of brilliance offensively but in the end it was too little, too late as the team fell 101-53.

"This is the toughest week of the schedule for us this season," Coach Uwarow said. "We are looking forward to our first home game after playing these two exhibitions against DI opponents."

Henry Blair led the Bruins with 15 points while Eli Cupples finished with 11 points and 5 rebounds. Newcomer Lincoln Riddle had 6 points off the bench shooting 2-2 from the field. The Bruins struggled in turnovers as the team had 20 in the game accounting for 28 Eagle points.

Next up, the Bruins will return home on Thursday night as the team welcomes Montreat College for the home opener. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Davis Field House in Greenville, South Carolina.
