The Bruins are back in the win column and have improved to 3-5 on the season after they beat Great Lakes Christian College Tuesday evening in Lansing, Michigan. Four Bruins players scored in the double digits with Delaney Edwards leading the way with 18 points.
"We had some strong plays all around tonight and it was good to see us bounce back from last night," said Head Coach Mike LeViere. "It was a team effort and everyone contributed. I was extremely pleased with the quality play from our bench tonight. Faith hit some key shots, Annie played probably her best game of the year, Kyla was great on defense and Hallie rebounded awesome. Our starters performed like the veterans they are and got us a good lead where we could work on some things in-game and get some practice doing some things we haven't tried in a while."
The Bruins entered today's on the heels of a Monday night loss to Grace Christian University. The Crusaders came into the game 2-4 overall after beating Miami Hamilton at their home opener on Saturday.
Tamrah Konieczka started the scoring off for the Bruins, sinking a three-pointer right from the beginning. Shea Dickinson would go on to steal the ball from the Crusaders and shoot for two more points to extend the Bruins lead. The first quarter ended with the Bruins leading 11-9.
The Bruins extended their lead in the second quarter shooting 83% from the 3-point line. Delaney Edwards led the team with 8 points in the quarter. Annie Miller and Gracen Ledford were right on her heels with 7 points and 6 points respectively. Going into halftime the Bruins held their opponents to only 22 points while leading with 40 points.
After the break, the Crusaders would look to rally back outscoring the Bruins 44 to 32 in the second half. With 49 seconds remaining in the game, the Bruins lead had dwindled to only 4 points, but the Bruins held strong and free throws by Gracen Ledford in the final seconds would help the Bruins keep their lead and win 72-66. Today's win was the first for the women's basketball team since November 12.
"Our focus was good tonight which was encouraging to see with a loss from the night before and Thanksgiving break ahead. It would have been easy to overlook this game or come out not ready and they didn't let that happen," said LeViere. "This is a positive note to build on, and we're looking forward to getting the rest of our team back from injuries."
Gracen Ledford ran the point guard position well tonight and was key to the Bruins offense with 9 assists and 13 points. Delaney Edwards recorded 18 points and 6 rounds in tonight's game while Annie Miller tallied her season high number of points with 15.
Next up, the Bruins will travel down to Macon, Georgia to face Wesleyan College on December 4.
