The women's basketball team opened up their 2021-22 season with a resounding 84-47 win over Agnes Scott College on their home court at the Davis Field House. Tonight's match was the first season opener that the Bruins have won since the 2017-18 season.
"I love the hard work that went on, and it's good to start off the year with a victory at home," said Head Coach Mike LeViere. "We're definitely not where we're going to be, and that's okay. It's the beginning of the season and we're going to get better."
Despite beating the Scotties in both of their previous meetings, the Bruins knew they would have to start out strong to continue the streak against the Georgia team. With tonight's 84-47 win, the Bruins now own the 3-0 record.
Right from the start, the Bruins would jump to an early lead with a three-pointer from Gracen Ledford. Both teams would trade baskets as the score remained balanced for the first few minutes of the first quarter. The Bruins would then go on a 7 point streak highlighted by three-pointers from Jessiann Wiedmann and Tamrah Konieczka to increase their lead. They ended the first quarter strong and more than doubled their lead over the Scotties with a 26-12 score after the first 10 minutes.Â

As the second quarter got underway, the Scotties slowly began to chip away at the Bruins lead, but the Bruins wouldn't let them have it. The first half ended with the Bruins leading 42-26.
The Bruins continued their run in the third quarter, but it wasn't until the fourth quarter where the Bruins would go on a scoring spree in the final 10 minutes to gain 30 points which was highlighted by a 57% three-point average. The Bruins ended tonight's home opener game 84-47 over the Scotties.
"Now we focus and improve on the things that we can control," said LeViere. "We have to pressure defensively without picking up fouls. We also got out-rebounded tonight which is rare for us so that along with other things will be a big point of focus as we head into our next game."
Jessiann Wiedmann led the Bruins with 22 points and Delaney Edwards finished tonight's match with a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Gracen Ledford was right behind with 15 points on the night. Next up, the Bruins will travel to Asheville, North Carolina to take on Warren Wilson College.
