Bruins Fall in Friday Night Home Game

The Bruins fought until the final whistle but weren't able to overcome Campbellsville University-Harrodsburg and fell 61-53 at the Davis Field House. After tonight's loss, the Bruins are now 5-6 on the season.

"I probably sound like a broken record. There was great effort and hustle and our team worked hard until the very end, but we just didn't reward ourselves for that effort," said Head Coach Mike LeViere. "It's painful because I know how hard this team works and that they want to be excellent, but we make silly mistakes that negate all of that hard work."

Both teams got off to a good start in the first quarter with both sides going back and forth for the first five minutes. Several turnovers would allow the Pioneers to gain the lead and the first quarter ended 18-6 in favor of the guest team.

The Bruins worked to close the gap in the second quarter with a layup by Ainsley Hutton to start their comeback. A free throw from Bethany Daulton with four minutes left would see the Bruins pull back within five points, but the Bruins would head into halftime down 29-18.

As the game continued, the Bruins kept fighting for a late game rally, but they ran out of time and they fell 61-53. Delaney Edwards led the Bruins with 16 points and 7 rebounds and Bethany Daulton was right behind her with 12 points and 7 rebounds.

"It's frustrating, but I see all of the work behind the scenes and it's going to pay off eventually. We just have to go through some growing pains," said Coach LeViere.

The Bruins look to bounce back as they are back at it tomorrow afternoon as they take on Johnson & Wales University in their final home game of the semester at 3 p.m. at the Davis Field House.

Looking into tomorrow's game, Coach Leviere said that the team needs to "limit turnovers, finish on the offensive side and award ourselves for the effort."
