The Bruins baseball team captured a road win on Friday night as the team rallied with a four-run 7th inning to defeat Trinity Baptist College 7-3 in Jacksonville, Florida. With the win, the Bruins snap their losing streak as the team moves to 5-23 on the season.
"We showed a lot of heart tonight," Bruins Head Coach Brent Casteel said. "They battled from start to finish and I credit our pitchers Henry Wallach and Conley Burk for doing a great job on the mound. Very proud of our guys and the way they played."
The Bruins came into the game on the heels of back to back losses to Columbia International University on April 20. It had been ten days since the Bruins last played as the team had cancellations due to weather.
The Bruins and Eagles met two weeks ago in Greenville with TBC sweeping the Bruins at Conestee Park in a three game series. The Bruins looked to avenge those losses as the two teams took the field on Friday night with Henry Wallach on the hill to pitch for BJU.
Isaiah Brandt led off the Bruins with a single and the team took their first lead of the game after Zach Burk singled home the run to make it 1-0 in the top of the 1st. Trinity answered right back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the 1st to make it 2-1.
The Bruins were able to battle back and tie the game in the 3rd 2-2, but again Trinity inched ahead as they carried a 3-2 lead all the way into the 7th inning. The Bruins then rallied as Riley Ramsey led off the 7th with a triple down the left field line. Zach Burk added another RBI on the game with a single to tie the game at 3-3.
Adrian Lasval then proved to be the hero as the freshman hit a three-run inside the park homerun to cap a four-run 7th inning for the Bruins to help the team lead 6-3 heading into the 8th. Conley Burk came on in relief for the Bruins on the mound and was able to shut down the Eagles as the team headed to the 9th. The Bruins were able to extend their lead 7-3 in the top of the 9th, before Burk shut down the Eagles in the bottom of the 9th as the team capped off a 7-3 road win.
Next up, the Bruins will be back in action tomorrow afternoon for a doubleheader against Trinity Baptist College with first pitch is set for 12 p.m.
