Bruins End Their First Preseason Match with a 3-3 Draw

With only one day of practice under their belt, the women's soccer team opened their 2021 preseason campaign Friday night with a 3-3 draw against the Columbia College Koalas.

"Considering the short amount of time we have been in preseason so far, the team really stepped up," said Bruins Head Coach Chris Carmichael. "Overall there was a lot of creativity of plays and movement off the ball."

Brinkley Adams, with an assist from Kayle Stevenson, opened up the scoring for the Bruins as the team led 1-0. The Bruins held possession for most of the half, but with just two minutes remaining the Koalas tipped one over the keeper to tie the score at 1-1.

In the second half, Columbia went up 2-1 over the Bruins, but sophomore Gabriela Gonzalez evened the score with an assist from Mia Marks. After the opposition scored their third goal of the night and with just a few minutes left in the match, Jenna Bishop tallied the third goal for the Bruins with the assist from Marks to level the score at 3-3.

"The girls played a great game, and I'm proud of the resilience the team showed to keep coming back," said Carmichael.

The Bruins go on the road to Tigerville, South Carolina Saturday for a 7 p.m. kickoff as they face North Greenville University in another preseason match.
