The Bruins volleyball team opens regular season play this weekend as the team hosts eight teams in a Labor Day weekend tournament. The Bruins will play four matches in two days as they kick off the 2021 campaign. The team comes into the weekend of games having won their final preseason match with a 3-0 sweep of Southern Wesleyan University on Tuesday.
On Friday, the Bruins will begin the weekend with a matchup against Columbia College (SC) at 4 p.m. The Bruins and Fighting Koalas have met five times in their history with the Bruins winning each of those five matches. The two teams haven't met since the 2019 season where the Bruins swept both matchups that year.
In the night cap on Friday, the Bruins will face Agnes Scott College at 8 p.m. The Scotties played an abbreviated 2020-21 season last spring in which the team went 0-7 in matches. The Bruins and Scotties have met just once in their history with the Bruins winning in straight sets 3-0 (25-12, 25-18, 25-15) in 2018. In that match, Katherine Ring powered the Bruins with 14 kills in the win.
On Saturday, the Bruins will play a pair of matches to round out the weekend. Opponents will be based on results from Friday's matches. This weekend's tournament is free admission for fans and each match of the tournament will be webcast. Follow the women's volleyball team all season long at
