Bruins Suffer First Loss of the Season to Converse University

In a physical match between two Upstate teams, the Bruins fell in a tough 4-0 match against Converse University. This was the first loss this season for the Bruins and they are now 2-1-1.

"The main message from me is togetherness," said Coach Greg Fulton following tonight's game. "We can't let this separate us in any way. I thought we played some quality minutes. We got chances, and I think the positives from this game are things we need to take into Monday and Tuesday as we look into our next game on Wednesday against another tough opponent."

The Valkyries opened the scoring in the 8th minute with a goal from Ryan De Leon as he was able to get past the defenders in the box and cross the ball into the back of the net. The opponents would double their lead with under 10 minutes remaining in the half as the Valkyries would counter giving Hayden Gensler the chance to slip it past the Bruins goalkeeper.

In the 71st minute, Converse University goalkeeper David Windmiller would kick the ball across the field where Fabio Pasini dribbled it around the Bruins defense and straight into the back of the net. The final goal came in the 84th minute from Sinan Kilincarslan to make it 4-0 for the visiting side.

"It's never good to give up four goals. But it shows a lot on how we can climb back into the game," said Fulton. "I was hoping we were going to respond, but we just weren't finishing chances. That's what we're going to improve on."

The Bruins will look to turn recover quickly as they go on the road to Alabama for a mid-week match. "It's going to be tough because they are back to back," said Fulton. "Next Wednesday we turn around, we focus, and we get things done on the road."
