Bruins Shutout Trinity Baptist College in 4-0 Win

In front of the home crowd at Alumni Stadium, the Bruins men's soccer team shutout Trinity Baptist College 4-0.

"I felt like it was important that we made a statement in the first match of region play," said Coach Greg Fulton. "We wanted to win this game with everyone getting on the field, which is something we were able to do. We've been playing such a tough schedule, so we felt like if we could get this game under control early and keep the pressure high, we could rotate some players and get some rest."

After several great looks early in the game, the Bruins got on the board after Mario Figueroa sent a volley halfway down the field to Victor Oladipo who went one on one with the Eagle's goalkeeper to score a beauty that gave the Bruins the 1-0 lead.

Just two minutes later Jean Carrero would have his chance to get on the score sheet as Mario Figueroa would pass the ball in front of the goal where Carrero put in the top left corner of the net.

After a misplay by the Eagles in the 60th minute, Mario Figueroa was there to take the ball and then chip it over the keeper's head to bring it 3-0 for the Bruins.

The Bruins kept pushing and were awarded one final goal in the 76th minute. Pedro Silva would sail the ball from the Bruins defensive zone all the way to Victor Oladipo where he tapped it by the keeper for his second goal of the game.

The Bruins had a total of 29 shots throughout the game to the Eagles' four.

"We go into a week with three tough games next week, and today was all about getting the minutes, some rhythm and some rest for some of our key players," said Fulton.

Next up on the schedule, the men's soccer team will travel to Columbia, South Carolina, to take on Columbia International University for a 7 p.m. match.
