Oberstar Leads the Way as Bruins Remain Unbeaten in Region Play with Sweep of Toccoa Falls

The Bruins volleyball team remained unbeaten in region play as the team swept Toccoa Falls College 3-0 on Tuesday night in the Davis Field House. Kayla Oberstar led the Bruins with a double-double 10 kills and 10 digs in the win.

"It was a great win for us against a really good Toccoa Falls team," Bruins Head Coach Vickie Denny said. "On Saturday, we just couldn't put anything together and we had a lot of errors and beat ourselves. Our team was ready to play tonight. We had a great crowd which really helped us play better."

The Bruins came into the match on the heels of back to back losses on Saturday against Johnson University (TN) and Columbia International. The team hoped to get back to their winning ways as they took the court against the Screaming Eagles who came into the match at 4-6 on the season.

In the opening set, Emma Riddle helped the Bruins take an early 3-0 lead as she hammered down a kill. The Screaming Eagles tried to answer back, but the Bruins continued to push their lead as back to back kills from Victoria Glaze increased the lead to 10-3. The Bruins kept Toccoa Falls out of their offense and scored the last five points of the set to cruise to a 25-9 win in the opener.

Another hot start gave the Bruins the early lead in set two, but the Screaming Eagles battled back to trail the Bruins 8-7. The Bruins then went on a run near the midway point of the set as kills from Emily Via and Kayla Oberstar and a pair of aces by Victoria Glaze extended the lead 17-9. The Bruins were able to close out set two 25-16 and take a 2-0 lead in the match.

With a sweep in their sights, the Bruins came out looking to finish off the Screaming Eagles. Errors plagued TFC as the Bruins led 6-3. Kayla Oberstar then took over for the Bruins as the sophomore had three kills and a big block to help the Bruins push their lead to 17-7. From there, the Bruins continued to pick apart the TFC defense for points as Victoria Glaze made a kill to help the Bruins win set three 25-13 and the match 3-0.

"Our serve was spot on tonight and took them out of their offense," Coach Denny said. "We were able to keep the ball away from some of their better hitters tonight and I was really pleased with our defense. We need to keep riding this wave and continue to look to play up to our potential."

Victoria Glaze led the Bruins with 11 kills and 3 aces on the night while Rachel Pattisall finished with 13 digs. With the win, the Bruins improve to 12-3 on the season and 4-0 in region play.

Next up, the Bruins will host another South region matchup as the team welcomes rival Pensacola Christian College on Friday night.
