The women's soccer team have extended their winning streak to six games after a 1-0 victory at Brevard College Wednesday night.
"The team worked incredibly hard to get this win despite struggling on the attacking side," said Head Coach Chris Carmichael. "Brevard pressed us high and for some reason we just collectively struggled to get a rhythm of play and any meaningful attacks. Our backs did a phenomenal job at keeping Brevard at bay and deserve credit for this win. Brevard played very well, and we were fortunate to get a high work rate out of our team to hang on for the win."
The Bruins started out strong as they saw five shots in the first half before they earned a corner kick in the 16th minute. The corner kick by Brinkley Adams was placed right to Gabriela Gonzalez who took a shot on target and then found the rebound to get the ball past Tornados goalkeeper to get the go ahead goal.
Brevard turned on the pressure really making the Bruins defense put in the work as they would try to tie the game in the first half. The first 45 would end with the Bruins leading 1-0.
It was a relatively quiet start to the second half, but speed of play picked up as Brevard College looked to even the score.
"Though they ran a high press the majority of the second half, defensively we held our own and pulled out the win," said defender Braden Adams.
The Bruins were able to hold on to their 1-0 lead and are coming home with their sixth straight win to make their record 7-1 on the season.
The women's soccer team will come back to Alumni Stadium to play the first game of a double header at 10 a.m on Saturday morning against Great Lakes Christian College before traveling to Georgia for a 3 p.m. match against Agnes Scott College.
