Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Kaitlyn Unruh

Strong Work Rate Rewards Bruins with 4-0 Win

The Bruins came out strong to blank Great Lakes Christian College 4-0 at Alumni Stadium in this morning's 10 a.m. match. The women's soccer team have now won seven games in a row to go 8-1 as they travel to Georgia to play their second match later today.

"The team did an amazing job at controlling the tempo of the game and quickly establishing a rhythm of play and showed a lot of patience in our buildup," said Head Coach Chris Carmichael. "We were able to put a lot of pressure on them and had a high work rate on both sides of the ball."

After a couple offside calls early in the game, the Bruins were able get the 1-0 lead as Gabriela Gonzalez would shoot a rocket right into the back of the net. Brinkley Adams would get several more chances at a goal before she was able to officially get on the board and double the lead for the Bruins in the 16th minute. The Bruins would get another one in the first half as Anna Grace Abrams would fire the ball right at the goal. The Crusader keeper would try to bat it out, but the ball would cross the line to give the Bruins a 3-0 lead.

With just a little over two minutes remaining in the match, Abby Herr would take a corner kick placed perfectly for Kayle Stevensen to head the ball right past the keeper and bring the final score to 4-0 in favor of the Bruins.

"Our teamwork allows us to have many threats offensively and when we play together as a team it's quality soccer," said Brinkley Adams, today's Player of the Game.

"Great Lakes Christian College is an upcoming strong NCCAA DII team, and there's no doubt they wil be a strong contender at nationals this year," said Carmichael. Coach Carmichael went on to say "we were clicking in high gear and the team did a fantastic job. Hats off to our players for a job well done."

The day isn't over yet for the women's soccer team. They travel to Decator, Georgia for a 3 p.m. match against Agnes Scott College.
