In front of a home crowd at Alumni Stadium, the Bruins men's soccer team blanked Toccoa Falls with a dominate 9-0 victory Thursday night.
"I was really proud of our guys," said Coach Greg Fulton. "I wanted to stay defensively strong, but ultimately I wanted to get a lot of different guys offensively going. We had a lot of different scorers. It's important to get guys on the score sheet. These are important games for us, and we want to be able to control them and be offensive in these games. Putting the ball in the back of the net is not an easy thing even if you control the game, and I thought our guys did a phenomenal job tonight."
Peter Waddy would kick off the scoring rampage less than 90 seconds into the game after James McCarty sent the ball sailing to the far corner of the field where Waddy would connect and score his first goal of the season.
In the 9th minute, Gasheed Lareche's shot would bounce off the knee of the Screaming Eagles goalkeeper and Peter Waddy was there to capitalize on the rebound to get his second goal of the game. The Bruins would waste no time as Mario Figueroa would send the ball to the top left corner of the goal just 15 seconds later.
The fourth goal of the game would come from Victor Oladipo in the 34th minute. But the Bruins weren't done scoring yet. Rylan Boldt picked up his first goal of his Bruins career with just a little over 3 minutes remaining in the first half.
The Bruins started the second half up 5-0 over Toccoa Falls College. Micah Hennegan would get knocked down inside the Toccoa Falls box which would lead to a Bruins penalty kick. Peter Waddy would face the Screaming Eagles keeper Alex Diaz and would take the PK sending the ball into the back of the net to complete his hat trick.
Caleb Felber would get subbed in and make an immediate impact scoring two goals in two minutes to bring the score up to 8-0. The final goal of the game would be scored by freshman Ashur Stevens with less than 30 seconds remaining in the match.
The Screaming Eagles were able to only see one shot the whole match to the Bruins 39 shots, with 27 of those being shots on goal. 28 players for the Bruins would have a chance to take the field in tonight's match.
"All in all, tonight was a great result and we're looking forward to Saturday and getting a tough game in and hopefully we'll get the result there too," said Fulton.
The Bruins will travel to Misenheimer, North Carolina to take on Pfeiffer University on Saturday for a 1 p.m. match.
