Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Kaitlyn Unruh

Bruins Score Seven Goals to Win 9th Consecutive Game

Halfway through the 2021 season and the women's soccer team shows no signs of stopping as they have now won nine consecutive games with today's 7-1 victory over the Wesleyan College Wolves. The Bruins have now moved to 10-1 on the season.

"The team had another strong performance and controlled the midfield and continued to show a lot of patience in our buildup play which created a bunch of scoring opportunities," said Head Coach Chris Carmichael. "We were able to balance playing time to give more players quality minutes which will help our team dynamics as we get into our October schedule. I'm very happy with where the team is at and we will continue to strengthen those areas that are working well."

The Bruins wasted no time as a pass from Mia Marks would allow Brinkley Adams to get a point blank shot and score with just over a minute into Monday's match. Two minutes later Gabriela Gonzalez would work her way through the Wolves defense and would send the ball into the back of the net from right outside the box to give the Bruins a 2-0 lead.

Anna Grace Abrams would get the ball in the 15th minute and open herself up to get a perfect shot right to extend the Bruins lead 3-0. With 20 minutes remaining in the first half, Mia Marks would score her team-leading 10th goal of the season with Kayle Stevenson picking up the assist.

Five minutes into the second half, the Bruins would go up 5-0 after the ball would go into the Wolves net off of a pass that went awry from one of their own defenders.

The Wolves would get on the board in the 78th minute as Bruins goalkeeper Rebekah Shoop would go one on one with Wolves player Lesley Godoy where the two would collide and the ball would roll into the goal.

With less than a minute remaining, Anna Grace Abrams would score her second goal of the game to make it 6-1. But the Bruins weren't done yet, with 13 seconds left on the board Gabriela Gonzalez would get a brace and seal the deal for the Bruins with a 7-1 victory.

"As a team we moved the ball very well and held composure throughout the game," said Bruins defender Jasmine Kohlwaies. " We played our game and fought hard until the end."

The Bruins would outshoot the Wolves 38 to 6 as today's victory would be the most goals the women's soccer team have scored in a single game all season.

The ladies are back with another home match on Thursday evening as they take on Upstate team Southern Wesleyan University.
