Women's Soccer Team Soars Over Screaming Eagles

Home again at Alumni Stadium in Greenville, South Carolina, the Bob Jones University women's soccer team soared to a 4-0 victory over the Toccoa Falls Screaming Eagles Monday night. With today's win, the Bruins have improved to 8-4-1 on the season.

"We are starting to put together some of the tactical ideas we have been working on in training," said Head Coach Chris Carmichael. "Playing creative and indirect presents unique challenges to players and requires higher order principle based thinking and takes awhile to get everybody on the same page, but it's starting to click and we have a number of new players that are picking this up really well. Toccoa Falls College put in a really good effort tonight and presented some challenges we had to work through but our team did a great job creating space and lots of scoring opportunities."

The Bruins entered today's game on the heels of a 11-1 victory on Saturday over Regent University while the visiting Screaming Eagles earned a 3-0 shutout also against Regent the day before.

Bob Jones began pressing early and saw several scoring opportunities early, but in the 11th minute a corner kick taken by Mia Marks set up Korbyn Griffith for a perfectly timed header that went right into the back of the net for her first goal of the season.

Just two minutes later after a shot from Kayle Stevenson sailed high, a misplaced goal kick sent the ball right to the Bruins. As Anna Grace Abrams received the ball she dribbled it around a defender and into the box to shoot the ball right past the goalkeeper to double the lead for the home team.

The first 45 minutes ended with the Bruins leading with two goals and 12 shots all while keeping Toccoa Falls without a shot.

After halftime, the Bruins came out looking for more and in the 63rd minute Gabriela Gonzalez set up for their seventh corner kick of the game. As sent the ball to the back side of the net, it was once again Korbyn Griffith who was there to head the ball into the back of the net.

Kaylee Rochon sealed the deal in the 79th minute after she stole the ball back from a Toccoa Falls defender right in front of the net and tapped the ball into the goal.

A brace from Korbyn Griffith as well as goals from Anna Grace Abrams and Kaylee Rochon helped give the Bruins the 4-0 victory on Monday. The Bruins recorded 28 shots all while keeping the Screaming Eagles off the shot and score sheet.

Midfielder Kayle Stevenson said "I really appreciated how once we got settled into tonight's game, we were working the ball up from the back, to the holding mid looking to switch to the wings and were able to get some really good scoring attempts in."

"We have some tough matches coming up and we need to take these recent successes and build upon them," said Carmichael. "But I am proud of the team's efforts and getting behind our tactical system and helping each other to become better."

Up next, the Bruins travel to Central, South Carolina to face Southern Wesleyan University on Wednesday before coming back home on Saturday to host Erskine College.
