The Bob Jones University men's soccer team earned their ninth consecutive win in tonight's NCCAA South Region showdown against Trinity Baptist College. With today's win, the Bruins have improved to 9-3-1 on the season and remain undefeated in region play.
"I am thrilled to continue our momentum and start our road trip off with a dominant win," said Head Coach Greg Fulton. "This game was extremely physical and it is clear we have a target on our backs for the region title. We had to adjust our style a bit due to the field and late challenges, but our team adjusted extremely well. We now look to team build over the weekend and refocus for our match on Monday."
Coming into tonight's contest, the Bruins saw themselves undefeated in conference play, having shutout Toccoa Falls College and Pensacola Christian College earlier this year. Following a big 4-0 home victory over Southern Wesleyan University on Tuesday, the Bruins were looking to extend their winning ways. Trinity Baptist College entered the match 1-6-1 on the season after their most recent 1-0 loss to Pensacola Christian College.
As the match got underway in Jacksonville, Florida, the Bruins gained possession early and put several shots towards the net looking for that first goal of the match.
Twenty-four minutes in, the Bruins earned a free kick outside the box in the attacking zone. Mario Figueroa stepped up to take the kick and sent the ball past the defensive wall and goalkeeper to give the Bruins the 1-0 lead.
Just three minutes later, a long ball was crossed over the goal where Micah Hennegan jumped to head it on frame to teammate Rylan Boldt who was at the back door to tap it in and double the lead.
It was Mario Figueroa once again as he netted his second goal of the game in the 64th minute. With just under eight minutes remaining in the contest, the Bruins sealed the deal with their fourth and final goal of the match scored by Matthias Baladi.
Today's 4-0 win over Trinity Baptist College saw the Bruins improve to 3-0 in region play.
The Bruins look to work off of today's momentum as they continue their Florida road trip on Monday to face Johnson University (FL) in Kissimmee, Florida Monday afternoon.
