Women's Soccer Team Dominate in Homecoming Win Against Regent University

The Bob Jones University women's soccer team dominated in Saturday's Homecoming match as the Bruins came away with an 11-1 victory over the Regent University Royals from Alumni Stadium in Greenville, South Carolina. After today's win, the women's soccer program improves to 7-4-1 on the season.

"It was a good game and it was good for us to get a lot of players minutes on the field today," said Head Coach Chris Carmichael. "We've been working on a lot of things with connecting the thirds, and I think we did a good job with that today. We're getting closer to where we need to be."

At the beginning of the week, the Bruins faced North Greenville University where they fell 5-1 to the NCAA Division II team. The Regent University Royals entered today's contest on the heels of a 3-0 loss to Toccoa Falls College on Friday night.

As the match got underway, the Bruins got off to a hot start and went on a goal-scoring spree in the first 15 minutes. Just 90 seconds into the contest, Gabriela Gonzalez got the ball past a few defenders and crossed the ball from the near side into the back of the net. Up next on the score sheet was Mia Marks as she received the ball from Brinkley Adams to turn and slot the ball right past the Royals' keeper.

The Bruins added two more goals less than a minute apart to increase their lead as Brinkley Adams recorded a brace scoring goals three and four for the Bruins.

As the Bruins set up to take a corner kick, Gabriela Gonzalez sent the ball over from the far side corner where Abby Herr was there to score and bring the total to 5-0 Bruins just 15 minutes into the match.

Throughout the match, Coach Carmichael was able to make several big substitution changes and many players were able to see playing time today.

With 15 minutes remaining in the first half, the Royals capitalized on one of their few scoring opportunities as the ball sailed to the Bruins net and right through the hands of Bruins goalkeeper Kate Sherf.

As the first half began to wind down, the Bruins scored once more. As Elizabeth Jordan crossed the ball, the Royals keeper went to make the save, but as the ball slipped though her hands Raegan Reed was there to take advantage of the empty net. At the half, the Bruins led 6-1.

The scoring wasn't done yet as the Bruins came away with five more goals in the second half. Anna Grace Abrams raced down the far side of the field and sent the ball low and into the back of the net to kick off the scoring in the second half. Mia Marks then scored her second goal of the game 10 minutes into the second half. Throughout the rest of the game Kaylee Rochon netted two goals while Maddie Pedder also got on the score sheet.

With the final whistle, the Bruins came away with a decisive 11-1 victory over Regent University.

Looking ahead to next week Coach Carmichael said one thing he is continuing to work on is patience in the midfield. "We want to build up to the midfield third and make sure keep the ball moving. We have to increase our speed of play a little bit, but I think we'll be okay going into our games next week."

Up next, the Bruins welcome Toccoa Falls College to Alumni Stadium for a 6 p.m. home game.
