Bruins Fall in Matchup Against Millsaps College Majors

The Bob Jones University Bruins have dropped to 0-2 on the season after falling 74-46 to Millsaps College. The Bruins are down in Birmingham, Alabama competing in the Richard Dardenne Memorial Classic.

"We are definitely experiencing some growing pains," said Head Coach Mike LeViere. "We have a long way to go, but I am confident that this group of young ladies will continue to work hard and learn from each experience. Our defense has yet to show up but the season is very young and we will slowly work things out. Almost everyone on the team has a new role and more confidence is coming with the experience."

The Bruins came into today's game after falling to Brevard College in their season opener earlier in the week. Today's game marked the first meeting between Bob Jones and Millsaps College.

As the game got underway, the Bruins were fouled early sending Shea Dickinson to the line. She made both of her free throws to get the Bruins on the board first. Tamrah Konieczka sunk a three-pointer followed by a layup by Ainsley Hutton to bring the score to 7-6 with just over six minutes left in the first quarter. The Majors then went on a 15 point run to end the first 10 minutes of play leading 22-7.

Two free throws by Ashley Phelan got the Bruins off on the right foot in the second quarter. Katrina Tabora then got on the board with a layup to cut the Majors' lead down to 11 points. Despite scoring 17 points in the second quarter, the Bruins saw themselves down 42-24 at halftime.

Freshman Anna Layne Wylder led the Bruins after the break scoring two three-pointers for six of the 11 points scored for the Bruins in the third quarter. As the final quarter got underway, Millsaps College scored three points before Tamrah Konieczka responded with two for the Bruins. The Majors them went on a nine point run to extend their lead. The Bruins didn't back down, but were unable to battle back as they fell 46-74.

Tamrah Konieczka finished the game leading with 10 points while Ainsley Hutton led the team with 12 rebounds. Shea Dickinson was close behind with 9 points and 6 rebounds.

"As always, we've got to make sure we are better tomorrow because of what we experienced today," said Coach LeViere.

It will be a quick turnaround as the Bruins will take on Birmingham-Southern College on Saturday for a 5 p.m. tip-off.
