The Bob Jones University women's basketball team kicked off the 2022-23 campaign at home in the Davis Field House with a Blue/White intersquad scrimmage.
"Overall we were pleased with how the game went today," said Head Coach Mike LeViere. "I was interested to see how we defended and rebounded and we wanted to test that against an outside opponent, but I felt we took advantage of the opportunity to play today."
The coaching staff divided the women's basketball team into two sides with returning players and newcomers spread across both teams.
Freshman Anna Layne Wylder, wearing navy blue, hit a three pointer to get the scoring started for the blue team. The white team (wearing the light blue jerseys) fell behind early in the first quarter, but came out on top 16-14 after the first 10 minutes of play.
The white team kept their lead through the second quarter and going into halftime they were up 41-32. As the final whistle blew, it was the white team who came out on top with a final score of 75-59.
Following the game, Coach LeViere said, "we had a good mix of returners and newcomers on the court and everyone contributed. That's probably the most exciting takeaway going forward is the depth that I feel we have. We are going to have to continue working on defense, but we know that and are working hard to get better every day."
The women's will open the 2022-23 regular season next Tuesday night as they travel to North Carolina to face Brevard College. Tip-off for the match is set for 6 p.m.
