The Bruins volleyball team heads into the NCCAA DII South Regional Tournament this weekend after earning the #1 seed for the tournament. The two-day tournament will be played in Jacksonville, Florida, this weekend on the campus of Trinity Baptist College.

"We're looking at the regional tournament as a new season," Bruins Head Volleyball Coach Vickie Denny said. "What we did in the regular season is behind us. We are focused and are locked in to do our best as we compete for the region."

The Bruins ended the regular season at 21-11 while also posting a 6-1 region record. The team will play in the semifinal match on Friday night against the winner of #4 Johnson University (FL) and #5 Trinity Baptist College earlier in the day. The Bruins have faced both the Suns and the Eagles and were a perfect 3-0 against those teams this season.

On the other side of the bracket, #2 seeded Toccoa Falls College will face #3 Pensacola Christian College for the third time this season. The winners of each semifinal match will meet in the region championship on Saturday.

The Bruins come into the tournament having won five of the last six South region titles. The team saw their five-straight region championship streak fall last season as the team was upset in the region championship against Pensacola Christian College. The Bruins were able to bounce back as the team rallied to win their fourth-straight NCCAA DII National Championship.

The Bruins come into the semi-final match and have seen good success against the South region this year. Their only region loss came on October 14 as the team fell in a five-set thriller to Toccoa Falls on the road.

The following is the seeding for the South regional tournament in Jacksonville, Florida:
  • #1 - Bob Jones University
  • #2 - Toccoa Falls College
  • #3 - Pensacola Christian College
  • #4 - Johnson University (FL)
  • #5 - Trinity Baptist College
This season, the Bruins have been ranked in the top-ten in the NCCAA Coaches' Poll and even reached the #1 ranking. The team looks to reach another NCCAA DII National Tournament as they compete for the South Region this weekend in Jacksonville, Florida.
