The Bob Jones University men's basketball team showed up tonight as they kicked off the 2022-23 season with a dunk contest followed by Blue/White intersquad scrimmage in the Davis Field House.
"It was exciting to be in the Davis Field House again in front of our fans," said Head Coach Burton Uwarow. "We have a lot of new pieces and it will take awhile for us to blend together efficiently, but I think if we stay healthy enough we can be very competitive this year."
To kick off tonight's event, several players impressed the crowd with their skills in a dunk contest. BJU President Dr. Steve Pettit, Dr. Neal Ring, and Randy Page rated each dunk on a scale of 1-10. As the scores were tallied, it all came down to newcomers Brian Sims and Dillon Harris. Harris narrowly took the win after several impressive dunks, including one over Dr. Pettit.
It was then time for the Blue/White scrimmage as the team played two 15 minute halves. William Snipes got the scoring started for the white team as he sunk a three-pointer a minute into the game. The game remained close and at the end of the first half, the Blue team saw a slight 25-24 advantage.
After the break, the Blue team came out strong after a three-pointer from Kenney Garrick and held on to the lead for most of the second half, but the white team battled back to tie the game with just under five minutes remaining. It was close for the rest of the game, but the White team was able to come out on top with a 56-47 win.
The Bruins continue their preseason on Monday as they travel to Spartanburg, South Carolina to face NCAA Division I opponent, Wofford College. Tip-off for the game is set for 7 p.m.
