Bruins Fall in Tuesday Game to St. Andrews University

Despite a strong offensive effort from Bob Jones at the beginning of today's game, the Bruins were unable to hold off St. Andrews University as they fell 12-7 at home from Conestee Park in Greenville, South Carolina. The Bruins now sit at 0-4 to start the season.

"I am very proud of the team tonight. This is the first time in a long time that we've made this happen, even looking back at last season and coming into this year,"  said Head Coach Brent Casteel. "Seeing those bats going was really exciting for us. We're looking forward to a really good future here as we move along."

Today was the first time the two programs have met as St. Andrews University came into this afternoon's game 9-3 on the season.

The Bruins got off to an promising start. With the bases loaded, Daniel Williams would ground one out to second allowing Riley Ramsey to score and put the Bruins out for an early 1-0 lead.

At the top of the second inning, the Knights would take the lead after a homerun from Bryan Encarnacion would send three runners across home plate. The bottom of the second inning looked very similar to the first for the home team. Like before, with runners on all three bases, Daniel Wood would hit a ground ball to second allowing Cole Pearson to score bringing the score to 3-2. After a nice play by Riley Ramsey, Chad Bayne would score to level the game.

The Bruins pulled ahead 5-4 in the third inning, but couldn't hold on as St. Andrews would take the lead just an inning later.

Zach Burk hit the first home run of the season for the Bruins to bring the score up to seven for the Bruins, but it wasn't enough as the home team fell 12-7 to the visiting Knights.

Looking ahead at the weekend home stand, Coach Casteel said that "we want to take the same approach this weekend. We want to be aggressive and to continue developing those skill sets as we go along. I love what our pitchers did today and am looking forward to what they can do from the mound as well."

The Bruins will host Carolina University for a battle of the Bruins this Friday and Saturday from Conestee Park in Greenville, South Carolina.
