Gracen Ledford Surpasses 300 Career Assists as Bruins Fall to Warren Wilson

The Bruins now sit 8-12 on the season as they fell 57-69 to the Warren Wilson Owls Tuesday evening. With seven assists on the night, Gracen Ledford surpassed 300 assists as a Bruin and put herself well ahead as the all-time assists leader for the women's team.

"I felt like this was a really good game for us overall," said Head Coach Mike LeViere. "We worked really hard on defense and our half court offense was functioning at a high level. The team worked extremely well at creating shots for each other. Unfortunately, we didn't finish the greatest at the rim and we shot one of our lowest percentages from behind the arc. I feel really bad for the young ladies that work so hard but come out losers on the score board. With all that hard work and good things happening, we have to reward ourselves by not turning the ball over and rebounding."

It was the Bruins who would get on the board first as Gracen Ledford and Delaney Edwards each scored giving the Bruins an early 4-0 lead. With two minutes left in the game and the scored tied at 11 points apiece, the teams exchanged baskets until a three-pointer from Warren Wilson put the visitors ahead. At the end of the first quarter, the Bruins were down by only two as Warren Wilson held the 18-16 lead.

The Owls went on an eight-point run to start the second quarter. A jumper by Shea Dickinson would get the Bruins on the board five minutes into quarter. A minute later, Delaney would sink one from the three-point line to bring the score to 21-26. Right before the buzzer, Catherine Skebo would hit a three-pointer to bring the score to 25-34 at halftime in favor of the Owls.

The Bruins scored 4 unanswered to kick off the second half. They continued to dig in their heels to slowly cut away at the deficit. The home team outscored the Owls 18-15 in the third quarter, but still found themselves behind going into the final 10 minutes.

It was Shea Dickinson once again as she scored for the Bruins to start the final quarter. It was then a back and forth effort for the next few minutes as the two teams exchanged baskets. Ultimately, the Bruins fell 57-69 to the Owls.

Delaney Edwards led the Bruins with 17 points and 7 rebounds on the night while Gracen Ledford contributed 7 assists and 10 points. Shea Dickinson was the third player to score in the double digits as she had 12 points and 5 rebounds.

"One of the great aspects of athletics is that we get to jump right back on the horse and attempt to do our best and be better tomorrow." said LeViere. "There were so many bright spots and good plays from this game that unfortunately are going to be overshadowed by the fact that turnovers and rebounds cost us the game."

It's a quick turnaround as the Bruins go on the road tomorrow to face Upstate school Southern Wesleyan University for another 5 p.m. game.
